1,700-Year-Old Woman's Grave from Thessaloniki Archaeological Wonder
A remarkable archaeological find from the 3rd-4th century A.D. was discovered in 1962 in the eastern necropolis of Thessaloniki: the grave of a woman with an intact braid. The artifact was buried in a hermetically sealed lead coffin within a marble sarcophagus. The "double shielding" of lead and marble as well as the use of resins and plaster enabled extraordinary preservation over the centuries.
