200 Years Since Exodus of Messolonghi – Historical Significance for Cyprus
The article commemorates the 200th anniversary of the historic Exodus of Messolonghi on April 10/11, 1826, when besieged defenders left the city after a year-long siege by Ottoman and Egyptian forces. Since then, Messolonghi has been a symbol of heroism and self-sacrifice and had significant influence on accelerating the Greek independence movement, with important consequences for Cyprus as well.
