52 years after Turkish invasion: Remembrance of occupation and displaced persons
On July 20, Cyprus remembers the Turkish invasion of 1974. According to the Interior Ministry, over 247,500 Greek-Cypriot displaced persons have lived outside their homeland for 52 years. President Nikos Christodoulides emphasized at a commemorative ceremony at Macedonitis Hill that it is the duty of all to end Turkish occupation and reunify the island. The government seeks to resume negotiations.
