68 Prisoners Released Through Presidential Pardon
President Nikos Christodoulides granted pardon to 68 prisoners on the occasion of the August 15 holiday. Of those released, 27 are Cypriot citizens and 41 are foreigners. The measure alleviates overcrowding in central prisons where inmates are stacked sleeping in the wings. Deportation proceedings have already been initiated against some foreign nationals.
