Adonia – the ancient Greek Easter festival
The article describes the ancient Greek festival Adonia, which was dedicated to the god Adonis and dealt with death and rebirth. The festival combined loss and return as well as death and renewal within a structured ritual framework and shows striking parallels to later Christian traditions such as Easter.
