Alcohol and drugs cause a quarter of deaths
Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades reported that alcohol and drugs are responsible for approximately 24 percent of fatal car accidents in Cyprus. Mobile phone use while driving increases accident risk fourfold. These figures were presented at the Harm Reduction Conference 2026 in Nicosia.
