Ancient bowls reveal secrets of Aztec textile production
A new study shows that small clay bowls used by Aztec women for spinning cotton also contained red dyes called cochineal. Artifacts from an archaeological site near Xochimilco show that these vessels were used not only for spinning but also for dyeing textiles.
