Ancient Diolkos stone road enabled ship traffic between seas
The Diolkos stone road was an ancient Greek engineering achievement that enabled ships to travel overland from the Ionian Sea to the Aegean Sea, bypassing the Peloponnese peninsula. It offered similar advantages to the later-built Corinth Canal and made passage safer for ships, but required heavy manual labor.
