Ancient Greek Military Camp Discovered in Uzbekistan
Archaeologists identified Iskandar Tepa, a mound site in southern Uzbekistan, as an ancient Greek military camp from a short period of settlement. Geophysical surveying and subsequent excavations revealed defensive trenches, dozens of burial pits, and a collection of buried water vessels. Publication in the Journal of Archaeological Science refutes earlier hypotheses about the nature of the site.
