In the 4th century BC, a man who would later become one of the cruelest tyrants of the ancient Greek world and ruler of Syracuse was already condemned by fate before his birth. The Oracle of Delphi had prophesied to the potter Carcinus that his unborn son would bring devastation. The story shows how a baby left to die became a powerful tyrant.
