Ancient Roman Quarry in Italy Supplied Material for Specialized Mortar
Researchers from the University of Padova have identified a Roman quarry site in Italy that supplied specialized volcanic material for producing durable high-performance mortar. The material was used in the construction of a significant bathing and theater complex. The study was published in the journal PLoS One and establishes the connection between the quarry and the mortar at archaeological sites.
