Archaeology: 5,500-Year-Old Artificial Island Discovered in Scotland
Archaeologists have discovered that an ancient artificial island in the Scottish loch Bhorgastail on the Isle of Lewis was built on a large wooden structure dating back over 5,000 years, contrary to long-held assumptions that it was made of stone. Researchers from the University of Southampton began excavations in 2021 and uncovered a wooden structure that formed the foundation of the historical settlement.
