Archimedes' screw as inspiration for the first helicopter
The water screw developed by Archimedes served as early inspiration for the development of the helicopter. The principle of spiral movement, originally intended for lifting water, already showed the potential of how rotation could generate upward movement. This ancient Greek mechanism later inspired inventors like Leonardo da Vinci for his aviation experiments during the Renaissance.
