Audit office reveals massive welfare benefit abuse cases
The Cypriot audit office has documented serious irregularities in welfare benefit payments by the Ministry of Social Welfare in a report. A foreign national received a total of 231,907 euros over 14 years despite his residence permits having expired and not being employed. In another case, the state paid out 19,391 euros for a child who had already died. The report contains sharp criticism of the ministry's control mechanisms.
