Authorities and Government Disagree Over Powers for Unsafe Buildings
Cyprus's building authorities (ΕΟΑ) argue that existing legislation does not provide them with sufficient powers and tools to evacuate or seal dangerous structures and that the prescribed procedures are too time-consuming. In contrast, the Interior Ministry, Parliament, and the technical chamber (ΕΤΕΚ) hold a different view and point to already existing legal grounds, particularly Articles 15 and 15B of current laws.
