Britain Pauses Chagos Islands Deal Following US Opposition
The British government has temporarily halted its planned transfer of sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius after US President Donald Trump criticized the deal. The islands are home to the strategically important US-British military base Diego Garcia. The required legislation to implement the agreement has been suspended for now.
