Central Banks Purchase Gold in Record Quantities
In the first quarter of 2026, central banks worldwide increased their gold reserves at an unprecedented pace. According to the World Gold Council, 244 tonnes of gold were purchased, marking the fastest increase within a year. Central banks took advantage of a price decline in the precious metal to make their purchases.
