Coastal Erosion Reaches Dramatic Proportions: Hotels and Infrastructure at Risk
Coastal erosion is accelerating rapidly and increasingly encroaching on private areas of hotels, thereby endangering public safety. In Oroklini, sections of the sidewalk were closed off by Larnaca municipality due to risk of collapse. Erosion is also evident in Chrysochous with concerning intensity, possibly exacerbated by the extreme rainfall of last winter and incomplete coastal protection programs with breakwaters.
