Colombian city Armenia withstands severe earthquake
The city of Armenia in Colombia was spared from loss of life during a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck the region. This was made possible by improved building standards introduced after a devastating 1999 earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 that destroyed 60 percent of the buildings in the provincial capital Pereira.
