Conflicts of Interest in Investigative Committee on 'Mafia State' Report
Cyprus has appointed a five-member team of criminal investigators (two Greek and three Cypriot) to investigate the possible criminal responsibility of state officials in connection with the 'Mafia State' report. The appointment is, however, overshadowed by allegations that one of the members has a conflict of interest. Government Spokesman Giannis Antoniou emphasizes that all necessary security measures have been taken to ensure impartiality and that the member in question has himself disclosed the connection to the investigation firm Focus.
