Controversy over traffic surveillance of vehicles in Northern Cyprus
Parliament is discussing a financing package for a surveillance system that would capture illegal vehicles and traffic violations in Northern Cyprus. An opposition bloc is blocking the fund release, as the system would automatically identify vehicles and this could be interpreted as recognition of a separate state. Identification should instead be carried out using Cypriot identity card numbers.
