Criticism of lack of citizenship for children from mixed marriages
A UN committee on the elimination of racial discrimination expressed concern about obstacles faced by Turkish Cypriots of mixed background (children from marriages between Turkish Cypriots and Turkish settlers) in acquiring Cypriot citizenship. The issue concerns the denial of citizenship rights to this population group. The Turkish Cypriot leadership is accused of supporting this discrimination.
