Cyprus blocks stricter EU Russia sanctions
Greece, Cyprus, and Malta successfully weakened stricter maritime measures when adopting the 20th EU sanctions package against Russia on April 23. The three Mediterranean countries, which control the majority of the EU merchant fleet, argued that strict restrictions would significantly damage the European shipping industry.
