Cyprus Conflict: Negotiation Efforts Continue
President Christodoulides assures that efforts to resume serious negotiations on the Cyprus problem are not frozen, although UN envoy Maria Angela Holguin has postponed her contact meetings until after the NATO summit in Ankara. Meanwhile, Turkish press reports on a Holguin draft that proposes a loose federal structure and examines the return of Varosha, Morphou, and parts of Mesaoria. The Turkish-Cypriot side, however, claims that the door to federation is closed for them and reaffirms its position in favor of a two-state solution with sovereign equality and Turkish guarantees.
