Cyprus Conflict: UN Mediator Warns of Lost Opportunity
The UN Secretary-General's chief negotiator, María Ángela Olguin, warns that the favorable opportunity to resolve the Cyprus conflict is gradually disappearing. She cites lack of political will and a confrontational climate as obstacles. This follows failed trilateral talks in New York, where Greek-Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelaou accuses the Turkish-Cypriot side of an "obstructionist pattern," while Turkish-Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman criticizes President Christodoulides' strategy.
