Cyprus faces EU proceedings over delayed banking laws
The Cypriot government submitted four banking laws to parliament in July - seven months after the EU deadline for implementing the European Banking Directive and four months after a warning letter from the European Commission. The delay risks formal EU infringement proceedings against Cyprus. Non-compliance with the EU Directive has already led to diplomatic tensions.
