Cyprus Has Second-Highest Asylum Rate in EU
Cyprus records the second-highest number of asylum applications per capita among EU+ countries in the first half of 2026 with 1,732 applications per population, although asylum application numbers across Europe overall declined by 17 percent, according to an EU asylum agency report.
