Cyprus produces too much waste but lacks disposal system
Cyprus generates 653 kilograms of waste per capita annually, significantly more than the EU average of 511 kilograms. Particularly problematic is that 76 percent of waste ends up in landfills, while the EU average is only 23 percent. Cyprus also fails to meet the obligation to introduce mandatory waste separation.
