Cyprus Significantly Underestimates Groundwater Extraction
Investigations by the investigative network Ciren show that the Cypriot government is unable to accurately measure the extent of actual groundwater extraction. The study, based on data from the water authority and audit reports, reveals that 76 percent of irrigation water comes from private wells. Of Cyprus's 22 groundwater bodies, many are insufficiently monitored, leading to uncertainties about actual water extraction.
