Ecuador builds high-security prisons to combat gang crime
The Ecuadorian government announced it will build as many prisons as necessary to combat organized crime and gang violence. In November, the country opened its first high-security prison with 600 inmates, primarily gang members, which is modeled after the French counter-terrorism center CECOT.
