Energy Costs Lead Eurozone Into Trade Deficit
The Eurozone recorded a trade deficit of 7.8 billion euros in goods in May 2026, a significant decline from a surplus of 15 billion euros in May of the previous year. Export performance in the currency zone remained nearly stagnant at 243.6 billion euros, a marginal increase of 0.1 percent. Rising energy costs are a major factor in this economic shift.
