EU Court hears case on Cyprus waste management – high fines loom
Cyprus faces the European Court of Justice over failures in waste management. 21 percent of waste is dumped untreated in landfills, while 63 percent is incinerated – far from the European target of 10 percent. Years of delays and unimplemented planning have put the country in the worst position regarding EU environmental policy, and substantial fines are threatened.
