EU Finances Memorial for Victims of Sexual Crimes in 1974
Cypriot Member of the European Parliament Loukas Fourlas responded sharply to protests by the Turkish government against the European Parliament's decision to finance a monument for women and girls who suffered sexual violence during the Turkish invasion of 1974. Fourlas emphasized that Cyprus does not need Turkey's permission to honor the victims of these atrocities.
