EU Inland Shipping Declines 3 Percent in 2025
Freight transport on European inland waterways reached a volume of 118.0 billion tonne-kilometers in 2025, a decline of 3 percent or 3.7 billion tonne-kilometers compared to 2024. Between 2015 and 2017, transport volume remained stable at approximately 145-146 billion tonne-kilometers before declining significantly.
