European Parliament Honors Female Victims of Turkish Invasion 1974
The European Parliament adopted a resolution with overwhelming majority (575 yes votes against 33 no votes) recognizing the women and girls of Cyprus as victims of crimes during the Turkish invasion of 1974. The resolution, drafted by Greek Member of Parliament Eleonora Meleti and adopted by the FEMM Committee, calls for accountability of those responsible and support for survivors of sexual violence. Meleti emphasized that the vote cannot heal wounds, but demands accountability.
