European Savings Could Protect Economy from Oil Shock Consequences
European households have higher savings rates than their American counterparts and could therefore be better equipped against the economic impacts of an oil price shock. An eight-week period of extremely high oil and gas prices due to the Iran conflict could thus have less severe consequences for European economies, with larger savings buffers serving as an economic cushion.
