Extreme heat in Cyprus: economic damages of up to €3.8 billion expected
New study by the Cyprus Institute predicts cumulative economic losses between €2.3 and €3.8 billion by 2050 if no workplace adjustments against extreme heat are made. The study documents a significant increase in workdays when employees must interrupt their work. July 2026 was already challenging with 11 extreme heat warnings, and further warnings are expected with temperatures around 40°C.
