First A(H9N2) bird flu case in humans in the EU
In Lombardy, Italy, the first confirmed case of A(H9N2) bird flu infection in humans in the EU has been registered. The patient is a traveler who returned from a country outside Europe where the virus was previously detected in birds. The patient with pre-existing conditions is being treated in isolation and the ECDC is closely monitoring the situation.
