Foot-and-mouth disease affects rare Cypriot animal breeds
Foot-and-mouth disease virus has infected facilities with rare indigenous animal breeds in Cyprus despite strict protective measures. Cases were registered in two operations in Larnaca: a cattle breeding facility with red cows and a sheep farming operation with Cypriot thick-wool sheep. This poses significant risks to the preservation of these valuable genetic resources of the country.
