Foot-and-Mouth Disease: Fourth Decree, Farmer Protests Over Compensation
Agriculture Minister Maria Panayiotou has issued Cyprus' fourth eradication decree against foot-and-mouth disease, with 110 agricultural farms now affected in Larnaca and Nicosia. Losses amount to approximately 10% of the sheep and goat population, around 3% of the cattle stock, and about 8% of pigs. Farmer organizations are threatening protests over outstanding compensation payments.
