Fossil reveals: Giant platypuses once lived in Australia
A fossil stored in a museum collection for over a hundred years shows that giant platypuses of the species Megalibgwilia owenii (Owen's giant platypus) once lived in Victoria and thus had a larger distribution area in Australia than previously assumed. The extinct species lived during the Pleistocene epoch approximately 2.5 million years ago.
