German motorway unused since 2014: 17.6 km of infrastructure deteriorates
Germany constructed a 17.6-kilometer motorway section (part of the A4) that was completed in 2014 but was never opened to traffic. A decision to expand an adjacent gravel pit made the road redundant and led to abandonment of the infrastructure. Today the completed motorway lies neglected, signage has been removed, and a small solar park sits on the grounds.
