Highest Forest Fire Alert Level Activated in Cyprus
Cyprus authorities have issued a red alert level for forest fires. The national civil protection coordinator, Archifeuer Nikos Longinios, described the day as "possibly the most dangerous day of the forest fire protection season" of the year. The extreme danger results from a combination of high temperatures, very low humidity, and strong winds. Authorities appeal to citizens for caution.
