Historic Astrolabe Achieves Record Price at London Auction
A rare brass instrument from the 17th century was auctioned at Sotheby's in London for over 2 million pounds (approximately 2.75 million dollars), setting a world record for astronomical instruments from the Islamic world. The astrolabe thus surpassed the previous record held by a smaller Ottoman astrolabe that was made for Sultan Bayezid II.
