Historic event: Parthenon destroyed in 1687
The Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens was severely damaged and partially destroyed on September 26, 1687 by Venetian leader Francesco Morosini. This occurred during a campaign in the Morean War against the Ottomans. The event was part of the 15-year 'Great Turkish War.'
