IMF Warns: Emerging Markets Vulnerable to Capricious Portfolio Investors
The International Monetary Fund warns that emerging markets are increasingly dependent on unstable financial flows. The majority of foreign financing comes from hedge funds, pension funds, and insurance companies, whose capital withdrawals during crises can lead to rapid financial turbulence. The share of such portfolio investments has doubled in recent years.
