Ionian Academy: Greece's First Modern University
The Ionian Academy on Corfu was actually Greece's first modern university, although the University of Athens is more frequently cited as the founding institution. The institution had a brief but glorious history and was in operation decades before the Athens University. It was located in the olive groves of Corfu.
