Israeli Researchers Combat Cactus Pests in Cyprus
Israeli scientists have released approximately 200 predatory beetles in Cyprus to protect the island's cacti from a destructive invasive species. At the request of the Cypriot government to Israel's Ministry of Agriculture and the Volcani Research Institute, measures are being taken against Dactylopius opuntiae, a pest that has destroyed a large portion of the cactus trees.
