Italy's population stabilizes thanks to immigration
After twelve years of decline, Italy's population has stabilized as immigration almost completely compensates for the decline in births. According to the national statistics office ISTAT, approximately 58.94 million people lived in Italy on January 1, 2026 - practically unchanged from the previous year. At the same time, life expectancy continues to rise.
