Krill boom threatens Antarctica and climate protection
Rising global demand for Antarctic krill as an ingredient in dietary supplements endangers one of Earth's most important ecosystems. Despite its size of only a few centimeters, this tiny shrimp-like crustacean is one of the planet's largest biomasses and plays a crucial role in feeding fish up to humpback whales as well as in climate protection. Uncontrolled harvesting could jeopardize the fragile balance of the Antarctic food chain.
